John Pyles, Psy.D. LMHC is a Hawaii-licensed psychologist and ANK’s supervisor of our Early Career Therapist Mentoring Program. Dr. Pyles earned his master’s and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University, and has over 17 years of experience providing assessment and treatment for children, adolescents with a wide range of disabilities. In his doctoral thesis, he integrated behavioral and relational approaches for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders for Asian-American families. As a psychologist for ANK’s Dr. Pyles Autism Clinic, he trains and supervises Behavior Technicians in providing Applied Behavior Analysis for individuals of all ages. Dr. Pyles’ professional experience includes being a staff psychologist for Kaiser Permanente, and having worked as an Autism Consultant, School-Based Behavior Therapist, Telephone Counselor with the Suicide Crisis Center, and Mental Health Specialist and Group Counselor at Kahi Mohala. At the Honolulu Family Therapy Centre, Dr. Pyles conducted psychological and psychosexual assessments of adolescents and adult sex abuse offenders and provided group therapy for adult sex offenders. At Ai Pono, Dr. Pyles provided individual therapy for clients with eating disorders. In addition to serving as a member of ANK’s quality assurance team, Dr. Pyles was a clinician-participant in the Hawaii TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) Learning Collaborative; and was a supervisor participant in the University of Hawaii – CAMHD sponsored training “Local Champions” which trained clinical supervisors to use MATCH-ADTC (Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma or Conduct Disorders).
